When I opened this week’s CSA farm box, I came to see that we had a plethora of fresh, beautiful chives and wasn’t sure what I should do with them. That’s when I originally thought that biscuits would be fun to make, and then realized that I had been craving a bagel lately, so long story short, that’s the background story on these. I haven’t made bagels in what feels like ages, but everything slowly came back on remembering how easy they are to make. These Gluten Free Cheddar Chive Bagels require four basic ingredients, and a few additional for their delicious toppings! After taking them out of the oven, and trying to let them cool, I already had a set of little hands insisting on tasting them. That’s when you know you have a winner. Ella was so excited and has always loved bagels, but is a big cheddar girl. I posted a quick video of her taste testing, and she described them as, “hot pizza tasting circles, like bagels, really cheesy”. Sounds too good to be true, personally. But a little tip: make a double batch of these, (slice them before), and freeze them! They will make excellent breakfast sandwiches or just a quick healthy snack.

Ingredients
- 1 cup gluten free flour blend (we used Bob's Red Mill 1:1)
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 cup greek yogurt (we used Fage)
- 1 tsp sea salt
- Avocado oil spray (I love Chosen Foods), or melted butter of choice, or even an egg wash
- 1/2 cup or more freshly chopped chives
- 1/4 cup or more shredded cheddar cheese (can omit for whatever cheese you like)
- Maldon Smoked Sea Salt to taste on top
Directions
- Step 1
- – Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Step 2
- - Line baking sheet with parchment paper and I personally added a small amount of avocado oil spray.
- Step 3
- - In a medium mixing bowl, add greek yogurt, gluten free flour blend, baking powder, sea salt and 1/4 cup fresh chives.
- Step 4
- - Fold together with rubber spatula until fully combined. Will need to scrape down spatula and keep working the dough.
- Step 5
- - Once the dough is form, transfer it to a flat surface dusted with a sprinkle of gluten free flour.
- Step 6
- - Roll out four somewhat equally divided sections of dough.
- Step 7
- - Form snake like rope pieces and make a bagel shape.
- Step 8
- - Once all the bagels are placed on lined baking sheet, spray with avocado oil or oil/butter/wash of choice.
- Step 9
- - Sprinkle with remainder of fresh chives.
- Step 10
- - Then add the shredded cheddar cheese to the bagels.
- Step 11
- - Add Maldon smoked sea salt (so delicious) or regular flakey salt.
- Step 12
- - Transfer to the oven and bake for 25 minutes.
- Step 13
- - Once the timer goes off, check on bagels, and they should be browned and crisp around the edges.
- Step 14
- - I then broiled the bagels for two additional minutes, but depending on your oven, you might need to bake up to 28-30 minutes.
- Step 15
- - You’ll notice the bagels are fully cooked when you see ridges or creases.
- Step 16
- - Remove from oven and place on cooling rack for at least five minutes.
- Step 17
- - Enjoy right away or slice and save or another great time to savor!
- Step 18
- - Ella rates these bagels as 13/10, so better get busy and make some :).
